Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to everyone from the staff and animals here at the centre. This Christmas was lovely and wet but no less magical. All our animals are on holiday at the moment, apart from Belle (one of our riding ponies) who is out working extremely hard and riding every day. All the ponies are in their winter field enjoying time playing, eating, sleeping and a bit more eating. The pregnant mares are beginning to show and with less than 4 months to go until we start foaling, they will only get bigger. We are hoping for at least 7 little foals this year and maybe a donkey foal too.

This time of year is always incredibly busy at the centre as we turn out attention to getting the centre ready for opening. Everything is cleaned, painted, improved and as always, we try to bring something new for our visitors. The centre is about 20 acres which includes lakes, fields, stables, barns, building and lots of play equipment. It takes a long time to get everything in top condition, so it looks fabulous when we open on Saturday 30th March. Like everything in Great Britain, we are often affected by the weather so no snow in late March this year will be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, we had a sad start to our winter period, losing two favourites from our herd. The stunning Countess, one of our younger Miniature Shetland mares and the matriarch of our Mediterranean Miniature Donkeys, Julianna. The centre will not be the same without them, nor will they be forgotten.

Our 2019 season is looking good besides the usual little patter of foal’s hooves, our popular Unicorn ‘White Lightening’ will be back! We will also be bringing back our events including My Little Pony Days, Unicorn & Dragon Days and some new themed events as well. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page and website for more details. The pony centre will also be improving its services in the café and shop. The café will be introducing new menu items, new drinks and snacks too! As always, we welcome your feedback on our new products in the café. Our range in gluten and dairy free will increase along with our options for vegetarians and vegans.

The centre, like Dartmoor, is looking a bit grey and bleak but we cannot wait until Spring for the return of the sun and the daffodils.

One of the country’s smallest ponies ventures outside for the first time yesterday at his home on Dartmoor, Devon, and he showed just how small he is when the daffodils came almost up to his ears.
The little miniature pony foal, named Bolt by owners of The Miniature Pony Centre on Dartmoor loves to canter through the daffodil flowers and to say hello to the other 30 ponies in the paddock who came to see him for the first time. Bolt is one week old.
