Access Statement for The Miniature Pony Centre


The Miniature Pony Centre is a farm based tourist attraction based on the cusp of Dartmoor nestled in-between Moretonhampstead and Postbridge. The attraction has stunning backdrops with some of the centre being based on a slight incline.

Our admission shop, café, donkey barn and toilets (including disabled toilets) are all situated on a flat surface. Our main attraction, the pony paddock, has a slight slope in and out of the paddock however we can offer disabled visitors the chance to have a pony brought to them to pet. There are hand washing facilities available throughout the entire centre, including anti-bacterial gel.


We are situated about 3 miles outside Moretonhampstead and about 45 minutes equi-distance between Plymouth and Exeter. There is currently no bus service running across the moor and stopping at the centre. There is a bus from Exeter to Moretonhampstead (Bus No: 359) which runs Monday – Saturday. This bus does not go any further than Moretonhampstead but there is a local taxi company Moretonhampstead Taxi’s 01647 441143

The Pony Centre is based on B3212 which is a long and bendy road which has several narrow points and blind corners.

Unfortunately, we do not offer any disabled equipment for our customers.

Car parking & arrival

Our main car park is ideally located right outside our admission shop driving into the main gates and turning right.

 The car park can hold 50 cars with the overflow carpark within the same area to the left of the entrance. The overflow car park can host a further 50 cars.

We offer free car parking for all. There is also disabled parking located at the top end of the main car park. This is clearly labelled and has the shortest distance to the main doors.

Customers can be dropped off safely in front of the admission shop. There is a 5 mph restriction in place throughout the entire car park.

There is a ramp into the admission shop and the doors are open at all times when the centre is open. There is no door to manoeuvre when entering the admission shop.  

Main entrance, Reception and Ticketing Area

The admission shop is a level area with a flat floor surface and clear passage way to the desk. The admission shop has mats into and out of the shop and is well lit.

The admission desk is 35 inches.

Staff will the customers all the information they will need to know about the centre and provide details of the activity board location and any special activities that are taking place.

We offer complimentary carer entry to the centre with every disabled visitor.


There is clear, large signal around the centre with pictures where applicable.

The paths are all concentrate with a gravel edge and are all level.

Entrance into the donkey barn has a small gate which is 54 inches in width. There is also a disabled access gate next to the main gate which is 83 inches in width.

Public toilets

The public and disabled toilets are located right to the admission shop and has non slip laminate inside.

The courtyard toilets are located in the courtyard near the indoor play centre. This area has a carpeted entrance and non-slip laminate flooring inside.

All sinks are lever operated.


Paddock view café is a level access area which has wooden flooring with floor to ceiling windows. The double doors are 67 inches when both are open.

The layout of the tables is suitable for the space and accounts for the fire exit points. The chairs are upright without arms.

Natural light is sufficient however spotlights can also be used.

We do cater for different dietary need including gluten free, coeliac and diary free.

The café service is full service with our staff making food and drinks to order. There is no self-service available for food or hot drinks in the café. The servery is a static piece of equipment which is 32 inches tall.

Garden and Grounds

There is 3 beautiful lakes to enjoy which have clear paths around them.

There is supervision signs clearly visible across all the lakes. There is no activities or reason to get too close to the ponds.

There is fencing throughout the centre and all gates into the paddock are clearly signed and have traditional latches.

Additional information

The staff all receive regular training regarding customer satisfaction and disability awareness training.

We undergo several fire alarm test procedures throughout the season and all staff receive annual first aid and fire safety training.

The centre welcomes assistance dogs throughout the centre, however all other dogs are not permitted on site. A free kennel service is provided at the back of the centre.

Hours of operation: Open every day from week before Easter holidays to last weekend of October. Open from 10.30 – 16.30 (except in August we are open 10.00 – 17.00 everyday).
