Animals

As you explore the 20 acres of beautiful Dartmoor parkland, you will meet lots of friendly animals, including a small number of farm animals.

We have Kune Kune Pigs which are physically true to their name which roughly translates as‘ fat and round’ in Maori.

Kune Kunes are generally bright, friendly, people-loving pigs.  They are originally from New Zealand where they are often kept on small farms as pets.

We have a small flock of sheep mainly made up of a miniature breed called the 'Shetland', this breed is native to the islands to the north of Scotland, the Shetland is tough, hardy and fine-boned.  It is renowned for the quality of its wool, with Shetland knitwear being world famous.

We have two different breeds of goat at the centre, with the most popular being the Pygmy goat, this breed originates from the West coast of Africa. The pygmy goat is genetically small and compact.

We also have a slightly larger breed called the Toggenburg, this breed of goat, is named after the region in Switzerland where the breed originated, the Toggunberg valley. Toggenburgs are medium in size; the colour is solid varying from light fawn to dark chocolate, with no preference for any shade.

We pride ourselves on the environment and management of our animals, so there is no better way for children to safely be introduced to them than here.
